Thomas Goodell
|
Thomas Goodell, 19, of West Tisbury helped the U.S. Naval Academy's men's gymnastics team to a second-place finish this weekend in San Jose, California, at the All-Academy Men's Gymnastics Meet. The team score was (325.65), just behind the Air Force Academy (327.8). Third place went to West Point (317.6).
Thomas had personal best scores (at the NCAA Division I level) on rings, 13.75, which placed him seventh, and high bar, 12.6 (tenth). Although just a freshman, Thomas has consistently assisted his team's top four scores count in each event, on rings, parallel bars, and high bar, in three out of the four meets so far this season. Navy now ranks fourth in the nation. Navy participates in a meet this weekend at the College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Virginia. Full Article |

Dan Melzar
|
In addition to being elected team captain, Dan has earned second team Academic All-American designation while majoring in kinesiology and health sciences with a concentration in pre-med and a minor in Hispanic studies...He knows his abilities and is a very solid competitor who can always be counted on when the going gets tough as evidenced by his having the top returning hit percentage from last year's team...Dan was our number ten team point scorer while competing on floor exercise, pommel horse and his best event vaulting where he competes a Yurchenko style vault... At the New England Sports Academy, he was coached by Levon Karakhanyan who also coached Dave Locke, a two time USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Champion for the Tribe...Dan has a very positive presence in the gym as he has a good technical eye and is very generous in helping his teammates get better. He is also a certified gymnastics judge which brings an additional perspective to the gym...Dan will be taking on a bigger leadership role in the William and Mary community as a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee this year...In preparation for pre-medical post baccalaureate programs, Dan shadowed the chief of orthopedics at Children's Hospital in Boston and volunteered in the patient unit at the New England Baptist Hospital... Dan's parents are Ray and Eva Melzar.

Boris Rasin
|
A former NESA gymnast (2005), Boris Rasin competed for the MIT gymnastics team and in 2009 was invited to the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championship.
Rasin placed 10th in the all-around qualifier with a score of 79.050. He notched a 13.850 on the rings, a 13.600 on the vault, a 13.200 on the floor exercise, a 13.000 on the high bar, a 12.900 on the parallel bars, and a 12.500 on the pommel horse. Full article |

Alexis Schupp
|
Schupp was a starter on bars as a freshman in 2011, posting eight scores of 9.6 or better in her 12 competitions. She scored a 9.700 at the ECAC meet to take first and went 9.750 against Brown for a career high. Her 9.685 season average was the highest on the team. She is enrolled in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Mike Sheehan

The International Grip Competition was held across 11 different countries including Australia, Russia, Finland, United Kingdom, and United States, with a total of 80 contestants.
The events were the competition standards of two hand pinch and overhand axle deadlift, along with the World of Grip half penny lift. Griffin Silver

Griffin Silver, who is a Future Star, level 7, on the boys gymnastics team, will be participating in the Kellogg's Tour of Olympic Gymnastic Champions at the TD Bank North Garden in Boston on November 11th. He sent in an audition video and was the boy chosen to join the Boston show. Very exciting for Griffin and NESA!
