Medieval Combat and European Fighting Arts

This class is designed to introduce you to the fighting techniques taught to Knights and Men at Arms during the height of the Middle Ages. This art involves learning how to use swords (both with one hand and with two hands), spears/lances, poleaxes, and daggers. All weapons are made of synthetic plastic, rubber, or reinforced foam with 100% safety in mind: wearing proper head and body protection is mandatory for all students. Courses cover the Medieval Long Sword, Broad Sword, Short Sword, lance, spear, axe, hammer, shield, and many more. Learn to master them all or become a connoisseur of your favorite historical weapon.

Participation in the *Member Elite* class is by invitation only.

Involves real battle-ready weaponry with little to no armor or protection. Primarily for practical and theatrical application.
About program director
Ramondo Proia
After a lifelong journey of Olympic level competition, appearances in film and national television, as well as overseas travel and cultural enrichment, Ramondo’s mission to guide, awe, and inspire those around him has been clear since the very beginning. A junior Olympics track and field star with over 13 gold medals, 3 first place victories in Shotokan Karate competitions, acclaimed leading roles in theatre, film, and television, and experience with historical re-enactment, performance, and consultation.

Ramondo’s fascination with medieval swords began shortly after moving to the U.S. in 2000. Immediately he began taking formal lessons in fencing and began developing his own technique. Ramodo’s skill and fluidity with medieval swords and weaponry have caught the eye of various film producers for whom he has developed choreographies, taught basic safety technique, and undertaken several acting roles and performances.

Ramondo is passionate about teaching and leading students of all ages to competitive victory and personal success. “To me there’s no greater joy in life than seeing the fire light in my students eyes. The fire that symbolizes the end of their fears, uncertainties, and self-doubts and the realization that they are moving forward, progressing, and pursuing their passions.”
