What is Combat SAMBO?
Combat SAMBO provides effective and proven defense against any attacks by armed and unarmed assailants. It is extremely useful for rape prevention and children’s self-defense. It is applicable to numerous professions, such as hospital staff, teachers, taxi drivers, bank employees, bodyguards, law enforcement and military personnel.
Combat SAMBO is a system designed to prepare individuals to effectively defend themselves in any life-threatening situation. The purpose of Combat SAMBO is to "survive."
Combat SAMBO is constantly evolving. With its ever-growing arsenal of techniques, adopted from many martial arts and fighting forms, it is one of the most comprehensive self-defense and survival systems in the world. It is unique among other styles and allows the practitioner to control the situation and dictate the level of response to the attack. Many techniques finish with the attacker being locked and escorted by the defender. |

History of SAMBO
Judo Master V.S.Oshchepkov and his students I.V.Vasilyev, L.B.Turin, N.M.Galkovsky, B.A.Sagatelyan, P.A.Shkolnikov, S.V.Dashkevich, and others created and promoted SAMBO through the 1920s and 30s.
In 1927, V. Spiridonov published a manual called "Samozaschita bez oruzhyia." Originally, the book was classified for use by only the Military, Police, and KGB.
This new martial art system was officially recognized as a legitimate sport in the USSR in 1938. At first, it was named "Free style wrestling." In 1946, it was renamed "SAMBO", which is an acronym for "Samooborona Bez Oruzhia", which is literally translated as "Self-Defense without Weapons."
The SAMBO system is a compilation of techniques from many martial art styles, including techniques from Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. During World War II, the system was widely used by the Soviet Army.
SAMBO experts also acquired applications and tactics from variety of street fighting techniques and many of them are included in Combat SAMBO. Today SAMBO consists of three components: Sport SAMBO (competitive sport), Self-defense SAMBO, and Combat SAMBO. |
